A hair transplant in India costs between Rs 30,000 and Rs 2,50,000 in 2026. Most clinics price per graft, at Rs 25 to Rs 150 per graft depending on technique. A typical case of 2,000 to 3,000 grafts costs Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,50,000 at a qualified clinic.
That is the short answer. The rest of this guide breaks it down the way an actual quote is built, so you can tell whether the number a clinic gives you is fair.
We have performed 3,800 hair transplants at Renee Prime. This guide reflects how pricing genuinely works in the Indian market, including the parts most clinics leave out of their published rates.
Quick reference: what a hair transplant costs in India
| Grafts needed | Typical baldness stage | FUE cost range | DHI cost range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 to 1,500 | Norwood 2, receding temples | Rs 35,000 to Rs 75,000 | Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,05,000 |
| 1,500 to 2,000 | Norwood 3, hairline plus temples | Rs 52,000 to Rs 1,00,000 | Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,40,000 |
| 2,000 to 3,000 | Norwood 3 to 4, hairline plus mid-scalp | Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,50,000 | Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 2,10,000 |
| 3,000 to 4,000 | Norwood 5, significant crown loss | Rs 1,05,000 to Rs 2,00,000 | Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 2,80,000 |
| 4,000 to 5,000 | Norwood 6, extensive loss | Rs 1,40,000 to Rs 2,50,000 | Rs 2,40,000 to Rs 3,50,000 |
| 5,000 plus | Norwood 7, usually split into two sessions | Rs 1,75,000 upwards | Rs 3,00,000 upwards |
Figures are for a single session at an accredited clinic with a qualified surgeon. They exclude travel, accommodation and any pre-existing medical treatment.
How hair transplant pricing actually works in India
Almost every Indian clinic prices per graft rather than per procedure. A graft is a single follicular unit, containing one to four hairs. Your final bill is the per-graft rate multiplied by the number of grafts, plus fixed costs.
The formula clinics use is straightforward:
- Surgeon assesses your Norwood stage and donor density.
- Grafts required are calculated for the area being covered.
- Grafts are multiplied by the per-graft rate for your chosen technique.
- Fixed costs are added, covering anaesthesia, operating theatre, consumables and post-operative medication.
This is why two people with the same diagnosis can be quoted very differently. One is being quoted on grafts alone, the other on the full package.
Always ask a clinic for the all-inclusive figure, not the per-graft rate. A clinic quoting Rs 30 per graft with Rs 40,000 in add-on charges is more expensive than a clinic quoting Rs 45 per graft with everything included.
Hair transplant cost per graft in India
| Technique | Cost per graft | What you are paying for |
|---|---|---|
| FUT (strip method) | Rs 20 to Rs 40 | Lowest cost, leaves a linear donor scar |
| FUE | Rs 30 to Rs 70 | Individual extraction, no linear scar |
| Bio-FUE | Rs 45 to Rs 85 | FUE plus PRP or growth factor enrichment |
| Sapphire FUE | Rs 50 to Rs 95 | Sapphire blades, finer incisions, denser packing |
| DHI | Rs 60 to Rs 120 | Implanter pen, no pre-made incisions, highest precision |
| Robotic (ARTAS) | Rs 60 to Rs 100 | Automated punch extraction |
| Biofibre (synthetic) | Rs 85 to Rs 180 | Synthetic fibres, for patients without viable donor hair |
The spread within each technique comes down to surgeon experience, clinic accreditation and city. A first-year surgeon in a tier-three city and a surgeon with sixteen years of experience in South Mumbai are not selling the same procedure at the same rate, and the difference shows in the hairline.
Cost by number of grafts
This is the number most people actually search for, so here it is in full.
1,000 grafts hair transplant cost in India
Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000. Suitable for a small receding hairline or a limited patch. Usually a single session of three to four hours.
2,000 grafts hair transplant cost in India
Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,40,000. Covers a full frontal hairline with temple restoration. This is the most commonly performed session size in India.
3,000 grafts hair transplant cost in India
Rs 90,000 to Rs 2,10,000. Hairline plus mid-scalp, or hairline plus partial crown. Typically an eight to nine hour session, sometimes split across two days.
4,000 grafts hair transplant cost in India
Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 2,80,000. Extensive coverage for Norwood 5 to 6. Requires strong donor density to be viable in one session.
5,000 grafts hair transplant cost in India
Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 3,50,000. Near-full head coverage. Most surgeons split this into two sessions eight to twelve months apart to protect graft survival.
A note on graft counts above 4,000. If a clinic offers you 5,000 or more grafts in a single sitting at an unusually low rate, ask how many technicians are working on you and how long grafts sit outside the body. Graft survival drops the longer follicles are out of the scalp. Volume pricing at that level is often a sign of an assembly-line operation.
Hair transplant cost by technique
FUE hair transplant cost in India
Rs 35,000 to Rs 2,00,000 depending on graft count.
Follicular Unit Extraction removes follicles one at a time from the donor area using a micro-punch. No linear scar, faster recovery, and the donor area heals as tiny dots that are invisible at normal hair length.
FUE is the default choice for most patients in India and represents the majority of procedures performed.

DHI hair transplant cost in India
Rs 60,000 to Rs 2,80,000 depending on graft count.
Direct Hair Implantation uses a Choi implanter pen to extract and implant in one motion, without pre-making recipient incisions. This gives finer control over angle, depth and direction, which matters most at the hairline.
DHI costs roughly 40 to 60 percent more than standard FUE because it is slower and requires a larger trained team.

Bio-FUE hair transplant cost in India
Rs 50,000 to Rs 2,20,000 depending on graft count.
Bio-FUE is standard FUE with the grafts treated in a growth-factor or PRP solution before implantation, intended to improve graft survival and speed up the growth phase.

Sapphire FUE hair transplant cost in India
Rs 55,000 to Rs 2,40,000 depending on graft count.
Sapphire FUE uses sapphire-tipped blades instead of steel to create recipient sites. The incisions are smaller and smoother, which allows denser packing and reduces scabbing and healing time.

FUT hair transplant cost in India
Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,20,000 depending on graft count.
Follicular Unit Transplantation removes a strip of scalp from the donor area, from which grafts are dissected. It is the cheapest method and can yield a high graft count in one session, but it leaves a linear scar. It is a poor choice for anyone who wears their hair short.

Biofibre hair transplant cost in India
Rs 85,000 to Rs 3,50,000 depending on fibre count.
Biofibre uses biocompatible synthetic fibres rather than your own hair. It is the option for patients with insufficient donor supply, and it requires ongoing maintenance as fibres are gradually lost.
Dr. Sulochana was the first surgeon to introduce Biofibre hair transplant in Mumbai.

Hair transplant cost in Mumbai and other Indian cities
Costs vary by city, driven mainly by clinic overheads and the concentration of experienced surgeons.
| City | Typical cost per graft | 2,500 graft session |
|---|---|---|
| Mumbai | Rs 35 to Rs 120 | Rs 90,000 to Rs 2,50,000 |
| Delhi NCR | Rs 30 to Rs 110 | Rs 80,000 to Rs 2,30,000 |
| Bangalore | Rs 30 to Rs 100 | Rs 80,000 to Rs 2,10,000 |
| Hyderabad | Rs 25 to Rs 90 | Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,90,000 |
| Chennai | Rs 25 to Rs 85 | Rs 65,000 to Rs 1,80,000 |
| Pune | Rs 25 to Rs 85 | Rs 65,000 to Rs 1,80,000 |
| Kolkata | Rs 20 to Rs 75 | Rs 55,000 to Rs 1,60,000 |
Hair transplant cost in Mumbai
Mumbai sits at the higher end of the Indian range, at roughly Rs 35 to Rs 120 per graft. A 2,500 graft FUE procedure in Mumbai typically costs Rs 90,000 to Rs 2,00,000.
Mumbai commands a premium for two reasons. Clinic real estate in areas like Charni Road, Bandra and Andheri is expensive, and the city holds a high concentration of surgeons with a decade or more of transplant-specific experience.
That premium is not automatic value. Within Mumbai the range is wide, and some of the most expensive clinics are not the most experienced. What matters is the surgeon’s own case volume, not the clinic’s address.
Renee Prime operates two Mumbai locations, at Charni Road in South Mumbai and Vasai West for the western suburbs and Vasai-Virar belt.
Hair transplant cost for men and women
For men
Rs 30,000 to Rs 2,50,000. Male pattern baldness follows the predictable Norwood scale, so graft requirements can be estimated accurately at consultation. Most male cases fall between 1,500 and 3,500 grafts.
For women
Rs 45,000 to Rs 2,80,000. Female hair loss is usually diffuse rather than patterned, which changes the pricing in three ways.
- Diffuse thinning needs more grafts spread over a wider area for the same visual density gain.
- Female donor areas are often affected too, which limits how many grafts can safely be harvested.
- Women more often need medical workup first, since thyroid disorders, PCOS and iron deficiency are common underlying causes that a transplant will not fix.
For many women, medical treatment and PRP produce better value than surgery. A responsible clinic will tell you this at consultation rather than book you for a procedure.
Cost by area treated
| Area | Typical grafts | Cost range |
|---|---|---|
| Hairline only | 1,000 to 1,800 | Rs 35,000 to Rs 1,00,000 |
| Temples | 600 to 1,200 | Rs 20,000 to Rs 70,000 |
| Crown or vertex | 1,200 to 2,500 | Rs 45,000 to Rs 1,50,000 |
| Mid-scalp | 1,500 to 2,500 | Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,50,000 |
| Beard transplant | 800 to 2,500 | Rs 35,000 to Rs 1,50,000 |
| Eyebrow transplant | 300 to 800 | Rs 25,000 to Rs 75,000 |
| Moustache | 400 to 900 | Rs 25,000 to Rs 80,000 |
The crown is the most expensive area per unit of visual improvement. It has a whorl pattern that needs careful angling, it is a large surface area, and it continues to recede in men who are still losing hair. Surgeons often advise treating the hairline first and reassessing the crown later.
Hair transplant cost in India compared to other countries
| Country | Cost per graft | 2,500 grafts (approx) | 2,500 grafts in USD |

| Turkey | Rs 90 to Rs 200 | Rs 2,25,000 to Rs 5,00,000 | $2,700 to $6,000 |
| UAE | Rs 250 to Rs 500 | Rs 6,25,000 to Rs 12,50,000 | $7,500 to $15,000 |
| United Kingdom | Rs 350 to Rs 700 | Rs 8,75,000 to Rs 17,50,000 | $10,500 to $21,000 |
| United States | Rs 400 to Rs 900 | Rs 10,00,000 to Rs 22,50,000 | $12,000 to $27,000 |
ndia is the lowest-cost major destination for hair restoration, at roughly one-fifth to one-tenth of UK and US pricing for comparable work.
Why India costs less
The gap is not a quality gap. It comes from three structural differences.
- Surgeon and technician salaries are a fraction of Western equivalents.
- Clinic operating costs, including rent, insurance and regulatory compliance, are far lower.
- High case volume in Indian cities means surgeons build experience faster and clinics operate at better utilisation.
India compared to Turkey
Turkey markets aggressively to international patients on price, but Indian pricing is typically lower still, and the regulatory picture differs. In Turkey, a significant volume of the procedure is often performed by technicians rather than the surgeon. Ask any clinic in either country the same question: who physically extracts and implants the grafts, and how much of the procedure does the surgeon perform.
What is included in a hair transplant quote, and what is not
Usually included
- Pre-operative consultation and scalp assessment
- Blood tests and fitness screening
- Local anaesthesia
- Operating theatre and surgical team
- Post-operative medication for the first week
- First follow-up review
Often charged separately
- PRP or GFC sessions after the transplant, commonly Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per session
- Extended medication such as minoxidil and finasteride, ongoing monthly
- Additional follow-up visits beyond the first
- Post-operative hair wash sessions at the clinic
- Touch-up or density sessions in year two
- GST, where applicable
The questions to ask before you pay a deposit
- Is this quote all-inclusive, or is it grafts only?
- How many grafts exactly, and is that a guaranteed count or an estimate?
- Who performs the extraction and implantation, the surgeon or a technician?
- How many post-operative visits are included?
- What happens if graft survival is poor, and is a corrective session covered?
- Is GST included in the figure quoted?
Get the answers in writing. A clinic that will not put its quote in writing is telling you something.
Is a hair transplant covered by insurance in India?
No. A hair transplant is classified as a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance in India. This applies to both public and private insurers.
The narrow exception is reconstructive surgery following burns, trauma or scarring from a medical condition, where some insurers may cover part of the cost with documented medical necessity. This requires prior approval and is assessed case by case.
Most clinics offer no-cost EMI through partner lenders, typically over six to twenty-four months. Ask what the effective interest rate is, since a “zero cost” EMI sometimes has the finance charge built into the headline price.
Why the cheapest hair transplant costs more in the long run
A quote significantly below the market range usually means one of the following.
- Technicians are performing the surgery. The surgeon meets you at consultation and appears briefly on the day. This is legal in India but it should be disclosed, and it should be reflected in the price.
- Graft counts are inflated on paper. You are billed for 3,000 grafts and 1,900 are implanted. Without a witnessed count you have no way to verify.
- Grafts spend too long outside the body. Rushing large sessions with a small team reduces survival rates.
- Punch size is too large. Faster extraction, more donor damage, visible dotting in the donor area.
- The hairline is drawn too low or too straight. It looks acceptable at 28 and unnatural at 45, when further recession has occurred behind it.
Corrective work on a failed transplant costs more than the original procedure and is constrained by whatever donor supply the first surgeon left behind. Some damage cannot be corrected at all.
How to verify a clinic before you book
| What to check | What good looks like |

Frequently asked questions
1. What is the average hair transplant cost in India?
The average hair transplant in India costs Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,50,000 for a typical 2,000 to 3,000 graft session. The national range across all case sizes runs from Rs 30,000 to Rs 2,50,000.
2. How much does a hair transplant cost per graft in India?
Rs 25 to Rs 150 per graft, depending on technique. FUT is cheapest at Rs 20 to Rs 40, standard FUE runs Rs 30 to Rs 70, and DHI runs Rs 60 to Rs 120.
3. How many grafts do I need?
It depends on your Norwood stage and the area you want covered. A receding hairline typically needs 1,000 to 1,800 grafts. A hairline plus mid-scalp needs 2,000 to 3,000. Full coverage for advanced loss can need 4,000 to 6,000, usually across two sessions. Only a scalp examination with donor density measurement gives an accurate number.
4. Is a hair transplant in India safe?
Yes, when performed by a qualified surgeon at a registered clinic. The procedure is minimally invasive, performed under local anaesthesia, and complication rates are low. Risks rise sharply at unregistered facilities and where technicians operate unsupervised.
5. How long does recovery take?
Most patients return to desk work in three to five days. Scabbing clears within seven to ten days. Transplanted hair sheds at two to four weeks, which is normal. New growth starts at three to four months, and final results appear at twelve to fifteen months.
6. Is a hair transplant permanent?
The transplanted follicles are permanent, because they are taken from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, which is genetically resistant to DHT. However, your untransplanted native hair can continue to thin. This is why surgeons often recommend medical therapy alongside surgery to protect what you still have.
7. What is the hair transplant cost in Mumbai?
Rs 35 to Rs 120 per graft, making a 2,500 graft session roughly Rs 90,000 to Rs 2,00,000. Mumbai is at the higher end of the Indian range because of clinic overheads and surgeon concentration.
8. Is a hair transplant cheaper in Turkey than India?
Generally no. Indian per-graft rates are typically lower than Turkish rates, and once flights and accommodation are added the gap widens further. Turkey’s reputation for low cost is largely relative to UK and European pricing, not Indian pricing.
9. Does insurance cover a hair transplant in India?
No. It is classified as a cosmetic procedure. The only exception is reconstructive work after burns, trauma or scarring, which requires documented medical necessity and prior insurer approval.
10. Can I pay in EMI?
Most clinics including ours offer EMI through partner lenders, typically over six to twenty-four months. Confirm whether the EMI is genuinely interest-free or whether the finance charge is built into the quoted price.
11. What is the cost difference between FUE and DHI?
DHI costs roughly 40 to 60 percent more than FUE. The difference is time and team size. DHI implants directly with a Choi pen rather than pre-making incisions, which gives finer control over angle and density but takes considerably longer.
12. How much does a 5,000 graft hair transplant cost in India?
Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 3,50,000 depending on technique. Most surgeons split 5,000 grafts across two sessions eight to twelve months apart, because graft survival falls when follicles spend too long outside the scalp.
13. Is a hair transplant cost different for women?
Yes, typically 20 to 30 percent higher for equivalent coverage. Female hair loss is diffuse rather than patterned, needing more grafts across a wider area, and female donor zones are often affected too, limiting safe harvest.
14. What happens if the transplant fails?
Ask this before you book. At a reputable clinic, poor graft survival attributable to the procedure is addressed with a corrective session. Get the policy in writing. Renee Prime provides a written results guarantee.
15. Do I need to shave my head?
Not always. Unshaven or long-hair FUE is possible for smaller sessions, though it costs more and limits the maximum graft count achievable in one sitting. For sessions above roughly 2,000 grafts, shaving the donor area is usually necessary.
